      Sharpeighe.

      ARMS. - Argent, on a bend azure three spearheads of the first.
      CREST. - An arm couped at the elbow, habited azure, charged with three slashes argent, holding in the hand proper a spear broken in three pieces or, the spear-head in pale headed argent, and the other two pieces in saltire.
      Another crest show the hand holdin [sic] three broken spears or, headed argent.
      A shield: Quarterly of nine: 1, Argent, three catharine wheels sable within a bordure engrailed azure; 2, Or, two chevronels gules, on a canton of the last a lion passant or; 3, Argent, a saltire engrailed gules between four martlets sable; 4, Argent, three bars azure, a chief vairé; 5, Purpure, a lion rampant or, crowned argent; 6, Gules, a fess double cotised argent; 7, As 6, but no tinctures given; 8, Argent, a fess double cotised gules; 9, Gules, a fess between six crosses pattée fitchée argent.

      John Sharpeighe of Sharpeighe in the Countie of Kent gent' Sonne and heire to Robert maried and had issue John.

      Lawrence Sharpeighe of Sharpeighe aforesaide gent' sonne and heire of John maried the Daughter of ..... Robertes of Brenchley in the Countie of Kent gent' and had issue by her Stephen Sharpeighe his eldist Sonne, John seconde Sonne, a Daughter maried to Cowcheman.

      Stephen Sharpeighe of Sharpeieghe [sic] aforesaid gent' sonne and heire of Lawrence maried to his firste wiffe ..... the Daughter of lynche of Crambroke and by her had no issue, After the saide Stephen maried to his seconde wiffe Elizabethe Daughter of ..... Astyne of Tenterden in the saide Countie and by her hathe issue Thomas, Lawrence and Stephen Dyed all three sans issue; Robert Shrpeighe [sic] his eldiste Sonne that lyved, Johan maried to James Borne of Sharsted sonne and heir to ffraunces Borne gent'.

      Robert Sharpeighe of Sharpeighe aforesaide in the saide Countie gent' Sonne and heire to Stephen maried Marye Daughter to Charles Scott of Eggerton in the saide Countie of Kent Esquire and by her had issue Bryan that Dyed yonge.

      From a section describing the parish church in Kingston upon Thames:
      "On another black Marble, on the South Side of the East Window, supported with four black Marble Pillars of the Dorick Order, is in Capitals this Inscription;
      M.S. Dominae
      Maria Sharpeigh,
      Uxo. Rob. Sharp.
      Militis.

      Principio Maii Genesin celebravit Apollo,
      Natalis Dominus cum
      Jove Phaebus erat:
      Imbribus autumnus madidis mea funera flerat;
      Me peperit plena, & me nova Luna tulit.
      Non demit hic sortem mihi lucida Stella benignam,
      At mihi Rex Caeli jam super Astra dedit.

      Illustris genere & genio fuit ista Maria
      Candida Vicinis, cordata, fidelis Amicis,
      Invicta adversis, & non elata secundis :
      Suaviter afflictos relevans devotaque sacris;
      Prudens Consiliique capax & Sordida spernens,
      Caelicolas inter sanctos nunc laeta triumpans.
      Extructum hoc
      Musae Munus
      morientis
      habeto.


      Between the two Pillars, on each Side, are these Names; Johannes Scott, - Gulielmus Scott, - Michael Scott, - Gulielmus Scott, - Johannes Scott, - Gulielmus Scott, Armiger - Johannes Scott, Miles, P.C. E. 4. - Gulielmus Scott, Miles - Johannes Scott, Miles - Reginaldus Scott, Miles - Carolus Scott, Arm. Fil. secundus - Mariae fil. Caroli Scott.
      Between the other two Pillars, - Adam Wyat, - Gulielmus Wyat, - Henricus Wyat, Miles & Banneret. - Thomas Wyat, Miles, - Thomas Wyat, Miles decollatus, - Jana Wyat, Filia secunda Thomae - Maria Filia Janae.

      On a black Grave-Stone underneath, in Capitals, is this Inscription;

      Vixi, & quem dederit Cursum, Deus ipse peregi.
      Hic jacet Corpus Dominae
      Mariae
      Sharpeigh, Uxoris Rob. Sharp.
      Militis, filia fuit Caroli Scott,
      Armigeri Cantiae, & Uxoris ejus
      Janae Wyat, ex utraque familia
      Illustris vixit Annos
      60,
      Menses 4, Spiritum Christo
      Resignavit Sept. 9, 1629,
      Et succubuit Annorum &
      Charitatis plena,
      Et jam laeta mei Caelo requiescit Imago.
