  • Notes
    • James was the poet in the family, penning verses on subjects as diverse as the death of his sister, Jane, and an exoneration of the family cat from the accusation of having stolen some steak. He also wrote prologues and epilogues for the theatrical performances offered by his siblings and father's pupils during their youth.
