  • Name Alexander Weller  [1, 2
    Born Abt 1595
Christened 20 Jul 1595  Cranbrook, Kent Find all individuals with events at this location  [2
    Gender Male
    Bequest 1619  [1
In his father, Dence Weller's will
    • His mother, Joan, was left the profits of Dence's messuage and lands for the education and bringing up of Alexander. After her death, his sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Thomas Hovenden, were to have the keeping of Alexander using the same profits, until he married. If he married with the consent of the majority of his uncles (both Weller and Hovenden) Alexander would then inherit the profits from Dence's messuage and lands. Without such consent, the property was to be retained by Elizabeth Hovenden after Alexander's death.

As it appears from baptism records that Alexander was about 24 years old when his father wrote his will, it seems odd that he was not bequeathed his father's property directly. It has to be assumed that his father had some reason not to trust Alexander with an inheritance.
