  • Notes
    • On the balance of probability, it was this Mary Willings who married John Mynott in Castle Camps in 1739. Although baptised as Mary Williams (a common mistake made in church records at this time), she was definitely part of the Willings family, given her father's distinctive first name of Cornelius.

There are at least two other candidates for the bride of John Mynott. Mary Willings, daughter of Richard and Elizabeth, baptised in Horseheath in 1719 can be relatively easily discounted, as she is referred to by her maiden name in her father's will written in 1764.

There is also a Mary Williams baptised in Castle Camps on 25 August 1717, the daughter of Edward and Mary. A Mary Williams (with no indication whether it was mother or daughter) was buried there on 30 March 1719 and Edward followed on 14 April 1720. I have tentatively identified the Edward buried in 1720 as the 20-year-old son of John and Mary Willings. Perhaps he married a Mary when he was just 17 - possible but unlikely.

Given that the Mary who married John Mynott was recorded with the surname Willens, I have chosen to identify her as the Mary who was definitely of the Willings family.
