    • I have assumed that Margaret was William Bateman's wife as she was the only female Bateman buried in Kippax who could have been, with the exception of Maria Batman who was buried in 1693. It is likely, however, that Maria was William's 20 year old daughter of that name.

      The discovery of a marriage for William and Margaret in nearby Monk Fryston also supports this conclusion. In Monk Fryston, two children were born to this couple before 1660 and none thereafter. In Kippax, William was named as the father in the records of six baptisms between 1660/61 and 1673. His son, William, also provides a connection as he was buried in Kippax but was probably the William baptised in Monk Fryston 5 years earlier.
