Agnes is listed as a daughter of Arthur Edward Mallyon in his First World War military service record. Her surname is not given, but she is referred to as Agnes Ruby, born 15 July 1913 in Linton - a description which exactly matches Agnes Ruby Whiffin. Whiffin, Agnes Ruby (I10798)

All their children were dead by 1828. Family F1530

Almost undoubtedly he was working for his father. Lansdell, Grenville A (I3042)

Almost undoubtedly he was working for his father. Lansdell, Norman Churchill (I3064)

Also on 2nd and 9th September. They had a certificate to marry where they pleased. Family F4432

Although described as a visitor, it appears she was the granddaughter of George Shepherd. Collier, Mary (I13345)

Although described as a visitor, it appears she was the granddaughter of George Shepherd. Collier, Sarah Ann (I13344)

Although described as Benjamin and Sarah Belsham's son, he was born before their marriage so may not have been Benjamin's child. Belsham, George (I9331)

Although described as married, she was resident at her mother's house with her daughter. Lansdell, Elizabeth (I2634)

Although described as the niece and housekeeper of Stephen Monger, she was also the mother of his illegitimate children. Huxstep, Hannah (I11357)

Although Ella was described as the daughter of Charles and Eliza Lansdell in census entries, I suspect she was in fact Charles's niece. Her birthplace of Mitcham, the middle name of Lansdell which was liberally sprinkled amongst William Henry Jenner's children; the spacing of William's other children leaving a small gap for Ella to have been born; and Charles and Eliza's otherwise childless marriage all suggest they adopted their niece. Jenner, Ella Lansdell (I2688)

Although he had little of his own to bequeath, Joseph was due a significant bequest from his brother, George Westran's estate. George had died in London in 1817 leaving a considerable sum to his widow, Elizabeth. At her death, half was to be divided between his relatives and the remainder was in Elizabeth's gift. Elizabeth Westran died in 1837 and thereafter lawyers must have had quite a job identifying all the rightful heirs. The first hint I had of this intriguing rags-to-riches story came from documents in the Public Record Office (now the National Archives) which authorised the administration of the estate of George Westran's nephew, John. He died a pauper on 30 October 1838 and his creditor, Frederick Hawksley Cartwright, applied to the Prerogative Court of Canterbury to administer his estate given his entitlement to "one Sixth Part or share of the Residuary Estate and Effects of his late Uncle George Western the amount of which share has not yet been clearly ascertained but which the Declarant believes will not exceed the Sum of Five Hundred and fifty Pounds". Westran, Joseph (I1083)

Although he was described as aged 3 years and 9 months in the parish register transcription, it seems likely it was the 1 year 9 month old George Halls who was buried as his brother born shortly afterwards was also named George. Halls, George (I3555)

Although he was described as married, his wife was not present. Lansdell, John (I6708)

Although her mother's name was given as Elisabeth at her baptism, it is highly likely she was the daughter of Elizabeth and Ann Hilder who had married in the parish some 9 months earlier. The Sussex Marriage Index proposes no alternative marriage of an Edward and Elizabeth. Hilder, Elisabeth (I5234)

Although her mother's name was given as Elizabeth at her baptism, it is highly likely she was the daughter of Elizabeth and Ann Hilder who had married in the parish two years earlier. The Sussex Marriage Index proposes no alternative marriage of an Edward and Elizabeth. Hilder, Ann (I5235)

Although his parents are recorded as Henry and Mary in the parish register transcript, he appears in the family of Henry and Susan in the 1861 and 1871 censuses so this appears to be an error. Hammond, Edward (I13013)

Although no baptism has been found for Edward, linking him to Charles and Ann Free as parents, theirs appears to be the only Free family in Camps Endway at this time and they did have two other sons named Edward, with the last one surviving to adulthood. Free, Edward (I7665)

Although now considered a male name, the first name 'Dudley' was used for many girls baptised in Hempstead, including Mary Broyd née Bye's sister, Dudley Bye. I have therefore assumed that Mary's child of that name was female. Broyd, Dudley (I4972)

Although referred to as the brother of Henry, Lucy and Mary Rhodes, subsequent censuses suggest this should have read "brother's son". Rhodes, Walter (I11373)
